Dark Garden, Dollymop, & Corsets for Men

August 27th, 2010 redd 2 comments

The more I read about and see the newer designs from Dark Garden, the more I’m impressed with the availability of wonderful corsets for men. Maybe it’s just a part of the steampunk genre, but it seems like there are more corset options for men (that are designed specifically for men) than ever before.

Dark Garden updated their website recently and seem to be focusing a bit more on the higher fashion types of corsets. For custom corsets, though, I’m sure that some serious boning lies underneath! While the price of a Dark Garden corset may be a bit higher than other outlets, l love that the price reflects the fact that Dark Garden employs folks from the San Francisco Bay area – a notoriously high cost of living area.

I’ve featured lots of Dark Garden corsets on this site in the past. And, I do have a ready-to-wear Dark Garden corset, which you may have seen on this site in the past. It’s comfortable (but not as comfortable as something custom made!).

In this video from the Dickens Fair, Autumn Adamme (Dark Garden founder, owner) describes a bit of male corsetry history:

And, in this photo gallery from the Edwardian Ball, you can see a ton of examples of men wearing corsets that were designed with both the male figure and male fashion in mind.

Continuation (and conclusion) of strange corset video

I posted earlier about three parts of an anti-corset amateur video posted on YouTube.

There are additional parts to the video on YouTube now, which I’ve embedded below. The trailer sewage pipe analogy is what really does it for me…Yikes.

Frankly, I think this video series does more to help acceptance of corsetry than anything else!

Nip / Tuck Season 6 Artwork

This is a bit off-topic. Nonetheless, here are a few images from the Season 6 artwork for the television show Nip / Tuck.

I think these images are fantastic. There’s something about the bizarre integration of corsetry / lacing with a raw, human body that is delicious. One reason, certainly, that I like corsetry is that it molds, shapes, and alters the human figure; in short, I like the body modification and control pieces of corsetry. These images clearly play on that, but do so in a way that avoids many of the cliches that are all-too-often attached to BDSM when shown in pop media.

I saw the show a few times during it’s first season, but then pretty much stopped watching TV altogether for several years. Looking just at lists of episodes, it’s clear that the show partially tries to create its edge by tapping into alternative sexual lifestyles. For example, in one episode the characters attend a swingers party. In another episode a pro domme is featured topping a guy.
